No Glue Required False Lash Tutorial

Hi everyone! In this post I'll be talking all about self-adhesive false lashes and how to apply and reuse them. When I first discovered "no glue required" falsies at my local CVS and Rite Aid, I thought what you're probably thinking right now: "Sounds too good to be true..." After going through a few packs of these little guys I've come to the conclusion that they actually do work! Yep, that's right...they actually stick right on exactly where you put them and I've found they even stay in place better than glue in most cases.

The secret is in the special sticky adhesive strip (they come already attached when you purchase them and most brands provide an extra strip of glue for reuse...more about that in the video). It's super comfy and flexible enough that you have as many tries as you need to apply them perfectly straight - and they still stay on all night. Just give the edges a little extra squeeze and you're good to go.

A few things I forgot to mention in the video:

Try to avoid using tweezers or any other "tool" to wedge the lash strip into your natural lash line. Although this is my usual method, I discovered metal and plastic stick to the glue strip and can pull the falsies right off. I just use my fingers and it works great.

There aren't a lot of varieties to choose from. So if you're not all that crazy about the few that Revlon and Eylure offer, you may be out of luck. However, the Revlon "Intensifying" set suits my tastes perfectly. They give just enough added length and volume without looking costume-y.

I may not be throwing away my Duo lash glue anytime soon but I will say it has been stashed in the back of my designated "false lash drawer" and hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

Updated Skin Care Routine

Hi everyone!

I feel like I haven't touched on my skin care routine in a really long time...so long it's kind of shameful...

But, the good news is that I have a "plethora" of amazing drugstore skin care products to share with you! I was nosing around in my bathroom cabinets the other day and realized my skin care routine has changed so much in the past year and I've really discovered some great finds in the aisles of the drugstore. In fact, I had absolutely no idea how much I loved Neutrogena products until I actually stood back and counted how many I use on a daily basis!

6...by the way.

This routine has really helped to clear my minor breakouts and keep my normal/combination skin in check. I honestly feel like I have to attribute some of that to Neutrogena, to be fair ;)

How To: "Smokey" Lash Effect

Looking back over 2011, I can't believe how quickly it has come and gone! I've had so much fun with my YouTube channel this year and I'm beyond excited to see what 2012 brings...

Last year at this time, I uploaded a video recapping some of my favorite makeup and beauty-related products of the year. I figured I would continue the tradition in my Best in Beauty 2011 video. I really tried my hardest (and it was very difficult) to narrow down all of my top picks and must-haves. These were the "shining stars" from the past twelve months and I would truly recommend any of these products to my friends, family and - of course - readers and subscribers.

Hi everyone! A few months ago I was toying around with the idea of filming a video about...well, filming videos! I've said this many times but the number one question I receive from my subscribers relates to making videos. So many of you have asked about my camera, lighting, editing software....the list goes on!

I'm also aware that an astounding number of my viewers have their own beauty channels as well. You guys are always sending me your videos and tutorials on YouTube and Twitter :) Which, by the way - I LOVE to see! So keep sending them my way!!

I'm obviously not a professional, but I have discovered a lot of things over the past year (some just as recently as a few months ago) that have made my little filming hobby so much easier. Most of my tips in the video below were discovered purely through trial and error...and lots of it!! Learning about video and film can be somewhat frustrating and time-consuming, I know this from experience! So, hopefully I can save some of my viewers a little aggravation and a lot of time by sharing some things I've learned on my YouTube journey. The tips in this post are by no means hi-tech (think lower-than-low tech), but nevertheless have made a huge difference in the quality of my videos. Hope you enjoy! After lounging around the house for the majority of today I decided I was really in the mood to film a new video...ahhh yes, productivity! Winter Glow: My Essentials for Warm, Radiant Skin

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving with your families! I just returned home from all of my holiday traveling, feeling pretty weary but eager to share some of my most recent must-haves of the moment! Hence my super late-night upload, not a surprise if you've been subscribed to my YouTube channel for a while (I'm a night-owl what can I say)...

Lately I've been filming videos about whatever trend or look I'm really loving at the moment. As the weather gets colder I've been skipping my usual pale, cool pink blushes and swapping them out for a warm, spiced cheek color. My new fave blush (Amazing Cosmetics blush in Cinnamon Spice) actually changes from a toasty apricot color, to a rich cranberry shade depending on how you apply it! DIY Butterfly Decor For Your Bedroom or Vanity!

Hey everyone! Including DIY home decor projects isn't something I normally do on my blog or YouTube channel. But since I'm currently in the process of decorating our guest room (my makeup room) from scratch, I've had so many ideas that I've wanted to share with you all.

On a recent rainy day I conjured up this "butterfly" shadowbox - it's not a real butterfly because I would feel too much guilt. Michael's actually has a nice little selection of faux butterflies, which is where I found this one, the shadowbox and glue. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how I engineered this since most of it was pre-assembled...hehe. However, below I've included a breakdown of the steps.

What You'll Need:

-Shadowbox or Empty Frame

(I actually had one laying around I found at Michaels

a few months ago and of course had no idea what to do with)

-Faux Butterfly

(no bug killing poeple, I found my

Ashland brand replica at an affordable $1.99...

much easier than running around a field with a net)

-Glue

(I used WeldBond because it

dries in an hour and works on pretty

much any material)

I removed the cardboard backing from my shadowbox, which conveniently came with a nice cut-out in the matting that was the perfect, butterfly-framing size! You could also frame a grouping of butterflies or pretty much any found object to create a piece of personalized home decor.

I dotted a pea-size amount of Weldbond on the center of my little bug's body and carefully placed it on the cardboard backing. In order to mimic a real mounted butterfly, I propped the wing up with some of the remaining packaging so it would dry upright - gotta improvise!

I let this dry for an hour and it was good to go. I love the end result

and it literally took me 5 minutes aside from drying time.

I think my shadowbox fits in amazingly well with the other goodies from HomeGoods that I recently featured in my Fall Haul! Just goes to show that decorating your space doesn't have to be stressful or break the bank!

Everyday MAC Palette Organization & Faves

I've always been asked a lot of questions about great basic MAC eyeshadows to start off or add to your makeup collection. I thought it might be fun to take a look inside my everyday MAC palette which contains all of my essential eyeshadows that I use day to day. The cool thing that I've noticed is a few of these shades were the very first MAC eyeshadows I had ever tried, and I still use them now...ALL the time! There are tons of great brands out there besides MAC, and even dupes for the colors I'll be showing you within the MAC eyeshadow line itself...but hopefully this will give you an idea of general color groups that can be helpful for you when trying to put everyday eye looks together. Fall Haul: Clothing, Vanity Decor on a Budget!

In an attempt to get my hands on some stylish fall/winter decor to deck the halls of my house, I made a trip to my local Marshall's & HomeGoods stores (thanks to my peeps on Twitter who suggested it)! Although they definitely had some great seasonal decorative items (at amazing prices), somehow I never even made it out of the housewares department!! I was definitely overwhelmed (drooling) at all of the awesome finds at both places so I derailed my mission and decided to take the opportunity to breath some new life into my guestroom/vanity room!

Since we've moved into our new place, most of our household decor as been dispersed around the rest of the house leaving my "film" room pretty bare bones...not the cutest. Until now! I can't wait to show you all the final result!

So I'm proud to say I'm now an admirer of MAC's Satin Taupe eyeshadow! This is big - I've always wanted to like this shade because I thought it looked gorgeous on other people! But, it always seemed to come across a bit muddy against my own fair skin tone. To lighten it up and sheer it out I've started applying it with a fluffy blending brush (any brush will do but I like Sigma's E40 brush) all over my lid and it creates a perfect, neutral smokey eye! I like it because it's still wearable for daytime but easily transitions to night with the help of a little black eyeliner. The look featured in the video below has been my fall go-to, so I thought I'd share it with you all :)

I've recently discovered a mascara that I've completely fallen in love with; the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara! Anytime I find a product that impresses me this much my first thought is to obviously share it with all of you!

Not only does this mascara perform better than any other that I've tried, it's also formulated with ingredients that are good for your lashes - can't ask for more than that! Check out the video below for more details on why I LOVE this product and a little trick that I've been doing when I apply it. I purchased my tube for $19 and although I do consider that a splurge purchase, in my opinion it was worth the money and I'll definitely be repurchasing Lights, Camera, Lashes in the future.

As much as I love painting my nails and experimenting with different colors, I've never really considered myself a "nail art person". Mostly because I thought it had to be time consuming and require a bunch of special tools. However, the other night I decided to get creative with a few toothpicks and the end result inspired me to make the video below! Using toothpicks to create nail polish designs is incredibly easy, inexpensive and precise. No other fancy tools needed!

Hey everyone! Since summer has officially begun, I thought I would do a blog post on an appropriate yet touchy subject: self tanning! Although a lot of people embrace the faux glow, it can still be difficult to achieve a streak-free, authentic looking sunless tan. For this reason I love applying Faux Tan by Bare Escentuals! Since it's a tinted self tanner, I can see exactly where I'm applying it which eliminates the threat of streaking altogether! I realize the thought of a tinted self tanner can be scary to some people - completely understandable. However, this is a product unlike any others that I've tried. In the video below I explain why I think this sunless tanning product is so innovative, and also demonstrate how I apply it with a body brush. I love this application method because I never have to touch the product! That means absolutely no orange palms :) In the video below I'll give you a mini demonstration of how I apply Faux Tan sunless tanner and do a quick run-through of my self tanning routine.

This is an eye look that I wore in my "How To Apply Blush" video a while back. It was highly requested to film a tutorial for this makeup look, and I thought it would be a good idea since it does involve some different application techniques. I find that applying my eyeliner this way is much simpler and full-proof than how I usually apply it, and I'll show you a cool trick for getting an "antiqued" effect with your eyeshadow. Easy "Braided" Hairstyle for Summer!

I absolutely love the look of bohemian-inspired braided hairstyles for summer! They're great to add some interest to your look and they keep the hair out of your face during those hot summer days. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly blessed in the hairstyling department. So whenever I'm trying to create a look like this, I'll cheat a bit and do my favorite "faux braid". It's the simplest braiding technique EVER (really..it is)! But I thought it might be fun to film this video since I've been wearing some variation of this style pretty much every day ;) In the video below I'll show you how to do it!

Concealing Dark Circles

If you keep up with me on YouTube you've probably already heard about my battle with under eye shadows. If not, the word "zombie" pretty much sums it up. For the longest time the entire process of erasing dark circles was shrouded in mystery for me. I was always told to use yellow or peach concealers for purple or blue-toned shadows. Although these products would cover, they didn't neutralize. My circles would always end up "peeking" through! My only option was to keep piling on more concealer, still leaving me with circles AND the dreaded "cakey" look underneath my eyes. Gah! So frustrating...

Then I was introduced to the world of color correctors...(cue the heavenly music). It's so much easier to experiment with different under eye concealers when you know that complimentary colors (those that are across from each other on the color wheel) can also neutralize each other when it comes to skin imperfections and makeup. I also thought that the half moons under my eyes had to be either purple or blue in color. Wrong again! My circles are actually more of a fleshy, brown color. Since a very cool pink sits across from brown on the color wheel, I started incorporating Benefit's Eye Bright pencil into my concealer routine.

**To make it even more confusing: Since brown is a neutral it doesn't have a precise complimentary color and it can be a variety of blue-based shades. Since my circles are more of a sallow, yellowy-brown, for me that shade becomes a cool violet-pink.**

In the video below I'll show you how I use my Benefit Eye Bright, how I match it to my skin tone, and the rest of my heavy-duty routine for canceling out those pesky under eye shadows!

The smokey "V" eye is one of my favorite and most-worn makeup looks for day or night, hands down! It's so simple and works with any color combination that you can conjure up. The description speaks for itself - it's an application technique that's all about placing your eyeshadows in a "V" shape in the outer corner of your eye. It instantly gives your eyes flattering lift and definition. I also find that it really enhances your lash line... which is always a bonus!

The idea for the video below was inspired by a popular bareMinerals tutorial kit of the same name. I never purchased the kit but the idea has always stuck with me. So I'm constantly trying to come up with new and improved versions of this look!

Although I don't often mention the bland subject of eyeshadow primers in my blog posts and videos, this product deserves not only a mention but it's own review! I love the versatility of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden. Despite my die-hard dedication to the original formula, Eden provides a great base for my eyeshadows with all of the added benefits of a concealer. Makeup Collection & Room Tour!

Since my YouTube channel and beauty blog are almost a year old (so crazy!), I figured it was definitely time to film a tour of my makeup room! You may be wondering why I have a "makeup room" and rightfully so. Well, it just so happens there's a spare room attached to my bedroom, and since we already have a guest room (and our older house is lacking in closet space) Josh and I have moved some of our clothing in there. Lucky for me, I finagled a spot in the corner for my vanity too. ;)

Someday when we own a house I'll be able to go into full-on design mode. But for the time being, I'm focused on trying to find home decor that is budget-friendly and functional at the same time! The decor of my makeup room really centers around the Sloane desk and shelves from Crate & Barrel. I really love them because they're sleek and contemporary, but still provide a ton of storage space! A few of the other pieces in the room include a green botanical-themed oriental rug and large coral chest that I use to store jewelry and other souvenirs from my travels ;) Both of these pieces are hand-me-downs from my landlord and most of the tiny design elements in the room I've found at Michael's, flea markets and antique malls. Just goes to show you don't have to break the bank to create a room that is customized to your taste and budget!

The video below will give you a more detailed view of my room set-up and, of course, my makeup! I'm obsessed with my new clear acrylic drawers from Muji, which can be found on their website or one of their three NYC locations. I love how they allow all of my products to lay flat, so that I can see every bit of my makeup and nothing gets banished to the back of the drawer, never to be seen again..... Not the case with this organizer!

This room set-up has been working well for me, so well that I decided to make it my film room - again! If you've been watching since the beginning you know that I filmed a few videos in this room when I first started my channel. Those videos are pretty embarrassing so I'll just leave it at that. But I'm happy I have a "new" spot to film that's a little more personal and fits my personality. If you'd like to see more check out the video below! Hope you enjoy!

Tropical Glow: Coral Cheeks & Lips!

I was so inspired by the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Cabo Coral that I decided to dedicate an entire video to the subject of coral lips and cheeks...one of my favorite trends for spring and summer! Not only is this product the perfect color, a lush cantaloupe, the formula is great and it wears just as well on your lips. When worn as a lip color it drenches your lips with the most refreshing apricot color. Nothing about this shade is orangey or neon! It also compliments a wide variety of eye looks, as I've discovered by wearing it almost everyday. It's the perfect no-fuzz multipurpose product to take with you on vacation, or you can blend it out with a little bronzer to mimic a "back from the beach" glow.

I purchased my Pot Rouge from Sephora.com for $24.00 and some change (most of the beauty counters I visited did not carry Cabo Coral, only Calypso Coral which came out in the same collection). Here is the official description of the product from BobbiBrownCosmetics.com:

Every year around this time I like to change up my foundation routine a little bit. I guess when the weather starts getting warmer it feels appropriate to lighten everything up! A great way to do that is to start with your foundation routine and in my opinion fresh, dewy skin is the best spring accessory! In the video below I show you some of the tricks I use while applying my liquid foundation to get a beautiful, luminous finish to my skin without looking greasy or shiny. If you already use a liquid foundation and setting powder in your regular beauty routine, then all you need is a damp sponge and your favorite highlighting product!
